Short project summary
Touching Cities aims to design tactile and multisensory routes across urban spaces, enabling visually impaired individuals to explore cultural heritage in an immersive and inclusive way. The project combines tactile maps, interactive installations and innovative technologies to transform the way people experience monuments and public spaces, fostering social inclusion, accessibility and cultural awareness, creating replicable models for cities across Europe.
Main Aim of the proposed project
1. Enhance accessibility to cultural heritage for visually impaired people and other underserved audiences.
2. Develop innovative multisensory approaches, combining tactile materials, audio guides, and interactive technologies.
3. Promote social inclusion, community engagement and cultural participation.
4. Produce guidelines and tools to replicate tactile and sensory routes in other European cities.
Expected results – output of the proposed project
1. Creation of pilot tactile routes in selected cities, with participatory design involving local communities.
2. Development of tactile maps, multisensory panels and audio descriptions for cultural sites.
3. A toolkit and methodology for replicating the model in other cities across Europe.
4. Increased awareness and engagement of citisens with urban heritage.
