Short project summary
Digital addiction among adolescents is an increasingly pressing issue in Europe. Excessive screen time, dependency on social media, and the inability to set digital boundaries negatively affect young people’s development and future prospects. As a result, adolescents often achieve lower learning outcomes at school and are less prepared for the challenges of further education, employment, and active, responsible participation in society. While many interventions focus directly on pupils, teachers often remain under-equipped to recognize, prevent, and respond to signs of digital dependency. This gap reduces schools- capacity to address the problem effectively. The project aims to empower secondary school teachers with the knowledge, skills, and digital teaching tools needed to address adolescent digital addiction (ages 14-19). By strengthening teachers’ ability to guide students toward healthier digital habits, the project will support improved learning outcomes and help young people become better prepared for life beyond school.

Main Aim of the proposed project
The project seeks to address adolescent digital addiction by equipping teachers with the tools and skills necessary to foster digital resilience and healthier learning environments. Its specific objectives are:

To strengthen teachers’ capacity to recognize, prevent, and address digital addiction among adolescents, thereby improving pupils – learning outcomes and readiness for further education, employment, and social participation.

To empower teachers to integrate innovative methods-including artificial intelligence and gamification-into their teaching practice, making learning more engaging and effective.

To provide teachers with a set of learner-centered digital tools designed to support the delivery of digital resilience training for adolescents.

To pilot the training programme with at least 50 teachers and 100 pupils, ensuring that the approach is evidence-based, practical, and adaptable across different school contexts.

To foster a whole-school culture of balanced digital use by promoting project results, engaging families, and encouraging sustainable practices beyond the project’s lifetime.

Expected results – output of the proposed project
eLearning Studio for Teachers – “Teaching for Balance: Helping Adolescents Overcome Digital Addiction for Better Learning Outcomes and Future Readiness” – an interactive online training environment to build teachers’ knowledge and skills.

Teacher’s e-Repository of Pupil-Oriented Digital Tools – a curated collection of practical resources to support the delivery of the non-formal training course for pupils “Balanced Use of Digital Devices for Better Learning Outcomes and Future Readiness.”

50 teachers trained through the eLearning Studio, improving their ability to recognize and address digital addiction and to promote digital resilience in schools.

100 pupils engaged in piloting the non-formal training course “Balanced Use of Digital Devices for Better Learning Outcomes and Future Readiness”, testing its effectiveness in supporting healthier digital habits and improved learning outcomes.
