Short project summary
European schools face a growing mental health crisis among adolescents, marked by rising anxiety, depression, and social media overuse, especially since 2022. Students aged 15-19 are most affected, with girls showing higher vulnerability. Social isolation, economic stress, and digital distractions have worsened well-being and academic focus. Schools are under-resourced, lacking both digital well-being curricula and mental health support systems. Over half of schools feel unequipped to handle a 58% increase in student help-seeking, exposing deep educational and health inequalities. Primary target groups: teachers, school counsellors, educational psychologists. Secondary: students (12-18), peer mentors, parents, policymakers.
Main Aim of the proposed project
Establish a cross-sector partnership and conduct a comprehensive needs analysis
Formalize collaboration with schools, training institutes, and digital education hubs in three countries, and gather insights from teachers, students, parents, and counsellors to define user requirements and policy alignment.
(WP1 – Consortium Formation & Needs Mapping)
Design and develop an adaptive multilingual platform to support students’ digital well-being and focus
Create an AI-supported platform that includes digital resilience modules, metacognitive focus tools, and early-warning analytics, fully integrated with popular LMSs and compliant with GDPR.
(WP2 – Platform Design & Integration)
Build educator and peer capacity to implement digital well-being practices in schools
Deliver blended training for teachers, counsellors, and psychologists, and certify student mentors as -E-Mind Ambassadors- to lead Focus & Well-Being Hubs in pilot schools.
(WP3 – Capacity Building & Pilot Implementation)
Measure the platform’s impact on student well-being, focus, and engagement
Collect and analyze quantitative and qualitative data from pilot schools to assess gains in attention, reduction in off-task behavior, and overall improvements in mental health.
(WP4 – Monitoring & Evaluation)
Ensure long-term sustainability and policy integration across Europe
Disseminate open-access tools, establish an educator community, engage policymakers through summits and briefs, and develop a sustainability plan with scalable training and hosting models.
(WP5 – Dissemination, Sustainability & Policy Engagement)
Expected results – output of the proposed project
A comprehensive Needs & Context Report guiding user-centered design
A detailed report capturing user stories, technical requirements, and policy context based on input from over 150 stakeholders (teachers, students, parents, counsellors) across three countries, ensuring the platform responds to real needs.
(Result of WP1)
A fully functional, multilingual Adaptive Focus & Well-Being Platform
A GDPR-compliant platform integrated with LMSs (e.g. Moodle, Google Classroom), offering gamified metacognitive tools, digital resilience lessons, and AI-powered early-warning features to support student well-being and attention.
(Result of WP2)
A trained network of 60+ certified – E-Mind Ambassadors – and peer-led school hubs
Teachers, counsellors, and student mentors equipped to implement digital-wellbeing strategies, with 18 piloting classes actively using the platform and leading school-based Focus & Well-Being Hubs.
(Result of WP3)
Evidence of positive impact on student focus, mental health, and classroom engagement
Quantitative improvements (e.g. 20% gains in task persistence, 25% reduction in off-task behavior) and qualitative insights from pilot schools, validated through surveys (GAD-7, PHQ-9) and usage analytics.
(Result of WP4)
A sustainable model for EU-wide scaling and policy integration
Open-access tools, an active online Community of Practice, national-level policy briefs, and a long-term Sustainability Plan with train-the-trainer systems and optional premium analytics for institutional adoption.
